Have you heard about Canine Influenza?
Canine Influenza virus is a H3N8 influenza virus and is not the same as the H1N1 “swine flu” virus. The symptoms of Canine Influenza are much like kennel cough. Coughing is the most common symptom. Some dogs may experience colored nasal discharge and a high fever. Up to 8% of dogs suffering from the flu may die-even with treatment.
This virus is highly contagious. There is a vaccine against it. Dogs that go to dog parks, daycare, grooming, or boarding facilities should recieve it.
The Canine Influenza vaccine requires two shots, given two to four weeks apart and should be repeated annually. If your dog goes to day care or if you plan to board your dog, you should check in advance to see if the vaccination is required. The Bordetella vaccine does not protect dogs against Canine Influenza.
Call us today to schedule your dog for their Influenza Vaccine!

Diabetes Mellitus
Overview
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition in which a deficiency of the hormone insulin impairs the body’s ability to metabolize sugar. It is one of the most common endocrine (hormonal) diseases of dogs.
There are two types of diabetes mellitus. Type I DM occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin. This can be the result of destruction of the cells in the pancreas that normally produce insulin.
